ISU EXTENSION RECOGNIZED FOR FORESTRY PUBLICATION
AMES, Iowa -- The National Woodland Owners Association (NWOA), and the Natural Resources and Environment Division of USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service recently presented the North Central Publication Award to Iowa State University Extension Service for the publication "Stewards of Our Streams."
NWOA is a leading national organization that supports woodlands owned by private owners. Since 1992, NWOA has honored land-grant institutions for their support of private landowners through extension educational materials.
"Stewards of Our Streams" discusses the benefits and problems of riparian buffers, riparian zones and ways to restore these areas into a healthy system.
"We like to address the problem and then provide options and possible solutions," said Tom Isenhart, associate scientist of forestry who collaborated on the publication. "This publication targets landowners, extension personnel and other conservation agencies, offering options to integrate in agricultural practices."
Others involved in the publication were Richard Schultz, Amy Kuehl, Joe Colletti and Paul Wray, ISU forestry and Laura Miller, extension communications. Dorothia Rohner provided illustrations and Valerie King was the graphic designer. The Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture funded the research and publication of "Steward of Our Streams."
