LONG-TIME ISU ANIMAL SCIENCE PROFESSOR RETIRES
AMES, Iowa -- A 38-year member of the Iowa State University animal science department will retire in July. Richard L. Willham has been on the ISU faculty for 38 years, working in both swine and beef cattle breeding research and teaching.
A retirement coffee for Willham will be held July 7, 3-5 p.m., at the Brunnier Gallery in the Scheman Building at the Iowa State Center. There will be a short program at 4 p.m.
Willham is best known for writing and popularizing the "computer cow game" and for working closely with the beef industry to develop genetic predictions, known as EPDs. In 1990, he was guest curator for a livestock art exhibition in the Brunnier Gallery. In 1996, he authored A Heritage of Leadership -- The First 100 Years of the Animal Science Department at Iowa State University.
Willham and his wife, Esther, will have some of their own art work on display at the reception. Friends in the university community and the animal science industry are invited to attend.
