FORESTRY EXTENSION PROGRAM PLACED ON ENVIRONMENTAL INDEX
AMES -- Iowa's Master Woodland Managers Program was recently selected for a Certificate of Environmental Achievement from Renew America.
The ISU Extension program has trained 521 people over the last eight years, forming a network of volunteers who assist land management professionals to improve and expand the state's woodlands. Participants receive 32 hours of intensive training in class and the field and are expected to contribute at least 32 hours of public service.
As a result of the designation, the program will be listed in Renew America's 1997 Environmental Success Index. This is the third consecutive year the program was cited in the index. Renew America, a nonprofit organization, each year identifies programs around the nation that provide innovative solutions to environmental challenges. To qualify for its index, programs are evaluated on the basis of four criteria: program effectiveness, natural resources conservation, economic progress and human development.
