MORE THAN 165 EMPLOYERS EXPECTED AT ISU AGRICULTURE CAREER DAY
AMES -- There were 17 employers at the first one held in the mid-'70s. Last year there were 140. This year, more than 165 are expected at Iowa State University's Agriculture Career Day.
The annual job fair, believed to be the largest of its kind in the nation, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at ISU's Memorial Union. More than 2,000 students, alumni and other visitors attend.
"Last year's job market for agriculture graduates was the best I'd seen in more than 20 years," said Roger Bruene, placement officer in ISU's College of Agriculture. "This year may top it."
The number of careers with international, environmental and entrepreneurial components continue to increase, Bruene said.
"We're also seeing more employers representing small businesses or operations who want to get their messages out to students," he said. Examples this year include a family farm operation in southeast Iowa and an urban forestry firm in New York City.
