Agicultural Weekend Experience

The ultimate agricultural weekend experience!

AWE makes it possible for nonfarm students to visit Iowa farms free for a weekend to learn about the lifestyles of Iowa's producers and get answers about farming or the agriculture industry. In 2006 there were two opportunities to take part. Students were able to:

AWE 06 students at an ethanol plant

  • Tour an ethanol plant to learn about that renewable fuel you've been hearing so much about.
  • Check out a dairy farm to discover how the milk gets from the farm to your bowl of cereal.
  • Stay overnight with a welcoming host farm family who is anxious to share information about their production, management and other practices.
  • See spring planting machinery, livestock operations and find out what makes each farm unique.
  • Show a prospective employer that you understand how the ag industry works from the "farm gate to the dinner plate."

The hosts are ISU Ag Endowment Board members or Farm Bureau affiliates.
