Fundraising Priority Projects

"Each year, the development staff discusses fundraising needs with the department chairs and program directors in the college. For the current fiscal year, more than $100 million in funding needs were identified. These projects were then pared down through dialogue with the dean and associate deans, until targeted projects totaling $9.65 million were identified as priorities for the College. These priorities fall into one of four broad categories, which are described as follows:

Capital Projects

Description
Agricultural Engineering Building - year one of a four-year goal to raise $10.5 million for construction of a replacement to Davidson Hall.

Faculty Support

Description
Chair in Agricultural Education & Studies - this will be the first endowed faculty position in the department's nearly 90-year history.

Jay Lush Chair in Animal Breeding and Genetics - all gifts up to $500,000 are matched one-to-one by another donor

Description
Henry A. Wallace Chair in Sustainable Agriculture - completion of a challenge issued by original donors to the chair.

Professorship in Mycology - this endowed faculty position would bridge the colleges of Agriculture and Liberal Arts & Sciences in this important discipline.

Professorship in Minority Studies - this endowed faculty position in Sociology would provide leadership to the study of the fastest growing segment of Iowa's population

Student Support

Description
Iowa Seed Association Graduate Fellowship in Seed Science - this campaign is being led jointly by the Iowa Seed Association, ISU, and the ISU Foundation to support graduate students in agriculture with an emphasis on seed.

Excellence in Agriculture Scholarships - these are the premier scholarships in the College of Agriculture, awarded annually to approximately twelve of the college's brightest incoming freshmen. This is an excellent recruitment tool.

Ukraine Study Abroad Scholarships - this fund will further strengthen the already well-established link between the College of Agriculture at ISU and partner institutions in Ukraine.

Programmatic Support

Description
BIGMAP - the Biosafety Institute for Genetically Modified Agricultural Products, ISU's newest institute, will begin an aggressive consumer awareness and education program through this first-year funding.
