CLASS OF '53 GIVES $53,000 TO MORRILL HALL RENOVATION PROJECT
At their 50th class reunion at Alumni Days in May, the class of 1953 presented the Morrill Hall renovation project with $53,000. One donor was alum Chuck Frederiksen ('53, zoology), who gave $15,000. One reason for the gift is an affinity with former ISU artist-in-residence Christian Petersen, who was an immigrant from Denmark. "All four of my grandparents came from Denmark. My Danish ancestry is important," he said. The renovated building will hold a museum for Petersen's work. Secondly, as the director of Iowa State's residence halls from 1967 to 1996, Frederiksen was committed to offering high quality, affordable housing to students, a career built on Justin Morrill's land-grant philosophy. "The recognition of Morrill Hall and what it stands for is really a part of my belief in the people's school," he said.
